Until the end of the 2005 season, the 911 GT3 Cup (996) was applied in different Porsche one-make cups worldwide in more than 50 race week-ends a year. Additionally, the race car participated in over 100 races annually in international GT n near-series motor sports, the race car was the first 911 model, which came into operation with a water-cooled boxer engine. The car concept incorporates Porsche’s long-term experience in the development of cost-saving customer sports cars.

Due to the change-over to Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars type 997 in 2006, the GT3 Cup model type 996 will not be produced any more, however, as a reliable race car, will be employed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and the GT3 Cup Challenge Series in Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. Also in national GT series and in Porsche Clubsport, the race car will be employed in numerous race events.and club sport.
