Paddle-shifts on the steering wheel ensure gear changes are even quicker and simpler, making it easier for pilots to concentrate on braking. The 1,200 kg lightweight 911 GT3 R is based on the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 997) for one-make cup racing. Thanks to a 0.2-litre increase in engine capacity and through optimisation of the intake system, the GT3 R delivers now 40 hp more than its Cup pendant. Both race vehicles are based on the extra-wide body of the street-legal 911 GT3 RS (Type 997).

The gearing of the sequential six-speed dog-type gearbox was adapted to the higher maximum output. In order to bring the power to the tarmac safely and to assist race drivers, the 911 GT3 R has featured a sophisticated ex-works traction control since the 2010 model year. An efficient race-ABS assists braking.
The underbody of the vehicle is completely covered and features a rear diffuser. Compared to the forerunner model, the adjustment range of the rear wing has been increased.
The Porsche 911 GT3 R will be delivered to teams around the world. The Porsche 911 GT3 R from the 2010-2012 model years can be upgraded to the 2013 -spec. An upgrade kit is available from Porsche Motorsport.
